Delta Theta Tau to host spring Soup and Salad Luncheon

Franklin St.Tickets are $15 per person and are available at Eitel’s Florist, Myers’ Market, Completely Nuts & Candy, Creative Touch beauty salon, and from any Delt member. A limited number of tickets are available and tickets must be purchased in advance.All proceeds from the event will be used to support philanthropy donations to local community programs.Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch catered by Myers’ Market will be served at noon. Several members of Covered Bridge Harmony will provide entertainment with their vocal talents.During the fashion show members and friends of Delta Theta Tau will model current styles and accessories provided by Christopher & Banks of Plainfield. The fun will also include drawings for several door prizes and a special raffle prize.Delta Theta Tau is a national organization dedicated to the advancement of philanthropy and charity and membership is open to women of all ages.Theta Chapter has been working for more than 108 years to improve the lives of children, women and families in Putnam County. It does so by donating money, time, and effort to programs such as the food pantry, non-food pantry, Mary Allison Children’s Trust, Imagination Library, Reality Fair, Summer Enrichment Program, Giving Tree, Phil the Need, the Red Cross, Family Support Services, the Memorial Garden flower beds at Forest Hill Cemetery and many others.Several years ago Theta Chapter donated to the Greencastle Fire Department the very first Fire Safety/Smoke House to help teach children how to escape and survive a fire.The sorority also provides two grants each year to help young women advance their education. It is able to do all this as a result of the generous community support of fundraisers such as this luncheon, the Holiday Home Tour and the sale of hundreds of cheese balls. (The Banner-Graphic)

COURTESY PHOTOTuesday, April 17, 6 p.m., Tower Hill Botanical Gardens: “Late Summer Glories – Planning the Late Summer Garden” … The horticultural director of Tower Hill, Joann Viera, will present a slide program on late summer gardening in the Theater Room for SGC members, a benefit SGC enjoys as an organizational member of THBG.Saturday, May 19, 9 a.m. to noon: Annual Plant Sale on Sutton Common (rain or shine) … SGC members will sell over 400 plants and bulbs grown in their gardens to raise funds for community projects, including the annual high school scholarship and the Sutton Center Bandstand maintenance, as well as SGC programs. Plans for other garden-related activities and tables are in the works. A membership information table will be located nearby the cashier table.Month of May Community Projects: SGC members will put in a Red Geranium garden at the Veterans Memorial on Manchaug Square in preparation for Memorial Day. This will be maintained for the season. SGC members will kick off the season of plantings and care of the garden surrounding the Bandstand in Sutton Center.June to August: In June, SGC members will visit a local private garden and greenhouse owned by a member of the Worcester Horticultural Society. A road trip to Pickity Place in Mason, New Hampshire, which was used for the illustrations of “Little Red Riding Hood,” is planned for this summer. A five-course luncheon, featuring fresh herbs from their gardens, will be served.
